Nelito
Nelito (also known as "Lito") is a Cabo Verdean-American sports broadcaster, media personality, and former collegiate basketball player. He is the creator and host of CV Sports HQ, a sports media platform covering Boston sports, the NFL and NBA drafts, Cabo Verde national football, and international soccer.
A native of the Cape Verde Islands raised in Dorchester and Cambridge, Massachusetts, Nelito is a United States Marine Corps veteran who went on to become a standout guard at Hesser College in Manchester, New Hampshire, where he earned JUCO All-American recognition. 1Early Life

3College Basketball Career
Nelito played basketball for the Hesser College Blue Devils in Manchester, New Hampshire, competing in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) and the Northern Star Conference. Despite the team's small-college status, Hesser was a nationally ranked scoring powerhouse during Nelito's tenure.
3.12002–2003 Season
The 2002–2003 season was a transformative year for the Hesser program under first-year head coach Mike Fischer, assisted by Keith Chandonnet and Ralph Wade. The team faced significant early adversity — seven players were dismissed from the roster for lack of commitment following an on-campus incident during the first semester. Fischer took a hard stance: "We want committed kids. We don't want problem players."
After starting the year 0–3 and finishing the first semester at 5–4, the Blue Devils surged to a 9–4 second-semester record and went unbeaten at home. The squad finished 14–8 overall and earned the #7 seed in the 10-team USCAA national tournament.
Nelito and Bosnian-born sophomore Sandro Vukosavlejvic served as co-captains. While Vukosavlejvic — who had played at Portland High in Maine — was the more vocal leader, Nelito led through action and performance. Together, they anchored the top-ranked scoring team in the entire USCAA, averaging 94 points per game.
Fischer praised Nelito's basketball IQ and finishing ability, comparing him favorably to Division I talent: "He's definitely a D1 player." Nelito himself dreamed of playing at the highest level: "I've always dreamed of Division I March Madness, and I've always dreamed about playing at the University of Cincinnati, too."

3.2Career High — 42 Points vs. NHTI
Nelito's most legendary performance came against rival New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI) in Concord. In their most recent meeting that season, the Blue Devils trailed the Capitals by 27 points in the second half. With six minutes remaining in regulation, NHTI still held a 21-point lead.
What happened next became the defining moment of Nelito's career. Coach Fischer compared the eruption to NBA legend Reggie Miller: "He was like Reggie Miller. He hit a three, he hit another three, he stole the ball and scored." Nelito delivered 15 points in just three minutes, single-handedly forcing overtime. He finished the contest with 42 points — a career high that stands as one of the greatest individual performances in Hesser College history.
The rivalry with NHTI and coach Paul Hogan was a defining thread of the season. Hesser lost to NHTI three times during the year, but Hogan himself praised the program's transformation: "He says he'll play us anywhere because we compete and we play the game. His words are our greatest compliment," Fischer said.
3.3USCAA National Tournament
The Blue Devils earned a berth in the USCAA national tournament, held on March 3, 2003, at Central Maine Technical College in Auburn, Maine. Seeded seventh in the 10-team field, Hesser was set to face the winner of the Eastern Maine–Southern Maine opening-round game.
Despite being undersized — the tallest player on the roster was 6-foot-1 freshman Antonio Soto — the Blue Devils believed their conditioning and pace would carry them. Co-captain Vukosavlejvic said: "There's not a team around that can run with us for 40 minutes." Nelito predicted the team would be "giant-killers."
